Back in 2007 and 2008 I participated in Cowboy Action Shooting and Action Pistol (USPSA style) Shooting matches. They were held at Sir Walter Gun Club. In 2009 when the State Games moved to Charlotte another gun range held some shooting matches (NRA style I believe), which I did not participate in due to not being familiar with the competition type. in 2011 there were not shooting competitions in the state games at all, which are being held in Winston-Salem.
With all of the clubs and ranges holding USPSA, IDPA, SASS, and other shooting matches it seems reasonable that matches could be held in the State Games of NC again.
Next year the State Games will be in Winston-Salem again, and then move to Cary (I believe)for the next two years after that (2013 & 2014).
I would like to see shooting sports return to the games, and figured that getting the word out would help see that happen.
I am the current competition manager for the Fencing events at the state game, and have held this responsibility since 2009. While I would love to see shooting sports return to the games, my plate is full with managing the Fencing events.
My hope is that someone that sees this message, or another that I post on other forums, will take up the cause of getting shooting sports back into the games.

That sounds pretty cool, I will have to look in to the state games, I have not heard of them before.
I am not sure if I would have time for it either, but if you can forward me some info about the state games and who to possibly contact I will do my best to see if I can get some one to work it.

A few years ago we held the state small bore 3 p here in Fayetteville, I am thinking we may be able to do so again, but range time is always a problem and getting the right people to help. Many of us forget to thank the guys that run matches on only focus on the shooters. Sir Walter has done a great job in the past but with new match dir.s going on line I am not sure what their thoughts are on the subject. I have been running matches here for the past 10 years with a help from a great crew of guys, but we also need to focus on our shooting so. I am talking to several ranges about hosting some of the matches here. The Fayetteville-Fort Bragg Shooting Team is very big on this and we may see what we can do also. Any info please keep me informed. Rick Smith hipower@nc.rr.com
